    Lac La Biche
    From Cold Lake, drive 148 km (89 mi) northwest on Hwy 55 to Lac La Biche. There are 152 lakes within 60 km (36 mi) of town. Lakeland Provincial Park offers four campgrounds near pristine lakes and white-sand beaches, wilderness trails, and Alberta’s only backcountry canoe circuit. 24 km (14.5 mi) east of town, 780-623-5434. Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park is on an island in Lac La Biche lake and features old growth boreal forest with more than 200 species of birds. Enjoy sandy beaches for swimming and fishing, as well as trails for hiking. 11 km (6.6 mi) east of town, 780-623-5434. Lac La Biche Mission is a National Historic Site established by Father Rene Remas, the site of Alberta’s first recorded saw mill, printing press and commercial wheat farming. June through Aug only, call 623-3274 for hours. 10 km (6.25 mi) west of town off Hwy 55. The first Muslim mosque in the area, built in 1955, was only the third mosque constructed in North America. Portage College on the south edge of town at Hwy 36 has a display of Native crafts and artifacts. Call 780-623-5551 or 780-623-5571.
